How I made a homemade boldering wall for cheap
Profesional rock climbing holds are expensive, around 5-$10 each, so I made my own.
3d printed rock climbing holds are tricky, I printed a set of ~20 in PLA, 10% infill with a 1mm nozle to speed stuff up. While I know these are not ideal settings for load bering parts, I wanted to see how strong they would be with bad settings and britle pastic. I have had 3 holds break so far, 2 jugs and 1 foothold,
Because I already had many tools for woodworking, makeing holds out of wood was a no brainer. Wooden holds have the big advantage of being super strong enough, no worring about them randomly brakeing. The down side was that they were not as customisable, for the moast part I would be able to create simple jugs and pinches veay quick and cheaply. Each wooden hold would cost around 25 cents each because I am useing non presure treated 2x4s because it is an indoor environment.
